Jeff Spence

A St. Louis native, I've always had a heart for the "mid-west," and yes I'm a Card's fan. At an early age, I fell in love with music. I loved the way it felt, the way it sounded, the way it made people want to dance, and how everyone was drawn to sing along (whether they could sing or not). I think I came into this world singing; to this day I'll still argue that those weren't cries, they were Elvis songs! I come from a somewhat musical family, and growing up in church, I had made my rounds through the drums, bass guitar, and piano by age 12. As soon as I could play my first real song on piano, I began to write. It was then I knew, I wanted to hear people sing my songs.

In 2001, I moved to northern California to take an audio tech position at a large church. I made some incredible friends during this season of my life, and one of those friendships led me down a 2 1/2 year path (on the road) as a professional audio engineer. I'm fortunate to have seen many of the big-city hot spots in the U.S., as well as dozens of cool and beautiful places most people's travels will never take them.

In July 2004, my interest in songwriting was peaking. I had often thought of moving to Nashville, and having made a couple close friends while out on the road touring, I knew it was time. I know people come to Nashville every year with hopes of starting a life that will result in a fulfilling career in the music business. I'm no different. I'm just fortunate to have come here with relationships already begun, that would be a support to me going down this road I'm on (not financially, still mixing live sound for that).

About eight months ago, I woke up one morning and wrote the first of the group of songs that have become my record, The "Redwood Queen" EP. For maybe the first time ever, I feel as though I wrote from the heart, lyricly and stylisticly. This music is by far the most honest, self-defining material I've written or sang - period. It feels more musically natural than I've ever experienced. I don't know where these songs and I will end up, but I'm building new friendships everyday, and loving every second of it. I'll have upcoming shows posted soon, and I truly hope you'll come out and say hi. Interesting relationship; Without the music there is no fan, and without a fan, the music won't last. Hope to see you soon .... Jeff
